Prince Sohyeon said two things might happen if my mission succeeded. He might kill Mi Ryung again or fall in love with her all over again and run away with her. I was naive back then and asked if he was joking. He said I should just go ahead with my mission. He left my room but uncertainty haunted me. I went outside and stopped Prince Sohyeon to ask one last question. What has my mission anything to do with protecting the country? He said Seung Po and Min Soo saw me as a friend, but he did not. He gave me the mission to test me, not because he trusted me. I was wrong to see him as a friend, stopping him like that. I was just the prince’s soldier. A soldier should carry out his duty no matter what. Only the King’s order trumped his. I apologized. The next morning, Seung Po came with his servant Pan Soe. He demanded a reason why I sent the present back. I told Seung Po I didn’t need a servant and I couldn’t afford the salary anyway. He said I shouldn’t worry about money. It would be rude to say no, so I accepted the present. Seung Po asked when I would start training. I told him I was to work in Hohwaguan immediately. He asked why I didn’t go to the training camp first like everybody. I almost slipped that the Prince arranged it but remembered soon enough that it should be kept a secret. I changed subject and asked Seung Po what kind of person the Prince was. “He was a bit insane.” Only Seung Po could bare to be his friend and he felt bad for the crown princess a lot. On my first day going to work, my servant fetched me the boots. But he had to rant that he had become so unfortunate to have to work under me. I liked that he’s honest. I still had a vivid memory of myself changing into the brand new uniform. A lot of things going on in my head at the same time. I was more like a spy than a soldier already on my first day. I hid in Yonggoldae’s room and read his journal lying on the desk when he went out. So even Yonggoldae wasn’t so sure about Mi Ryung’s real agenda. I found Mi Ryung’s room and decided I should confront her face to face, for she recognized me anyway. Mi Ryung answered the door and let me enter. But she was only half dressed when she boldly ask what mission the Prince had given me. I told her to get dressed before I would talk to her. She even laughed at me for being uneasy. When she went to the other side of the room, I saw a letter on the desk. It was Yoon Seo’s letter. Yoon Seo didn’t burn it? As I was still shocked holding the letter, Mi Ryung came out. She did something to me and my legs became all weak and I felt so dizzy. She kept babbling about how she found out my relationship with Yoon Seo. She said she and I had one thing in common, being betrayed by our love. She said it’s because she pitied me that she didn’t kill me. And she gave me an advice: the Prince wasn’t worth my life. Not long, I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I saw a court lady lying dead next to me. She had a needle on her neck. It happened someone knocked at the door right after and I had to escape out of the window. The poison’s effect was still there when I jumped. So I fainted again. I barely remembered what’s happened when I woke up in the woods right behind Hohwaguan. Out of the blue, Yonggoldae jumped out of the same window that I jumped. There were other soldiers shouting that it’s the king’s order that Yonggoldae be killed. So I decided the king’s order was more important. I chased Yonggoldae and fought him.
